Handmade for your home
Accessories for our homes have been popular for a long time and in recent years have become more so with TV shows like those of Kirstie Allsopp promoting arts and crafts, bring to our attention new crafts and old ones we might have forgotten about.
Handmade arts and crafts
Whether we buy our handmade arts and crafts or we make them our selves they can add a very person touch to our homes. You only have to search the internet to find a wealth of online information on how to create your own handmade accessories plus many shops and store selling wonderful unique and handmade items.
Crafts are wide and varied from sewn and kitted accessories to decorative ob-jay in perhaps natural wood or glass perhaps. A unique piece can transform a room into something special and if you have created it yourself can also be very satisfying. Arts and crafts for the house and home can take many forms, can involve learning a new skill or perhaps recycling something to make something new. Old curtains can be up-cycled to create cushions maybe or old furniture painted to give a new or even vintage finish.
Artistic flare – personal touch
If you are artistic you may want to create your own wall art, this could be anything from photographs which can be framed or printed onto canvas or maybe try your hand at watercolors or drawing. Encaustic art is an ancient art form, sometimes referred to as a craft, sometimes an art, I personally think of it as a bit of both!
Encaustic wax painting dates back to ancient times and has had a revival in recent years with the availability of modern day electric heat tools.
The Art In Wax online gallery and website has artwork created by me Hazel Rayfield, an Encaustic artist from the south east coast of England, where I create pictures and paintings using hot wax.
Encaustic art may not as widely known about as some art mediums, paintings in hot wax have vibrant colour and a wonderful texture and sheen, my website and blog has lots of information on this art form.
We have created several demonstrations on the Art In Wax blog, some photographic with step by step instructions and others are short video demonstrations live on the Art In Wax Youtube Channel so you can watch me paint using heated tools to create pictures in hot wax.
So if you decide you would like some new accessories why not think about some homemade and handmade items for your house and home. Make them yourself or buy some from someone who has handmade them …… either way it could be fun!
